3 Italy Extends National Roaming Deal with Telecom Italia

Telecom Italia says that it has renewed its national roaming contract with Hutchison Whampoa's 3 Italia to provide 2G coverage for the operator. The contract is worth 280 million EUR (US$440 million) over four years. Telecom Italia and 3 Italia have also struck a new SMS interconnection deal.

In the statement, Telecom Italia said that the agreement creates value from Telecom Italia's mobile network infrastructure. It also encourages mobile market competition by offering access to 3 Italia's virtual mobile carrier partners.
3 Italia ended last year with an estimated 6.3 million subscribers.
